1. Definition and classification of bi/tricomponent fibers

Bi/tricomponent fibers are fibers that have been extruded and then spun on the same spinneret with two or three polymers, with a cross-sectional shape specific to the fiber's intended use. The two polymers differ in their physico-chemical characteristics, such as molecular weight.

We often speak of "bicomponent fibers", even if today new tricomponent machines are appearing in laboratories and industries.
