ABSTRACT
In this article, elementary methods in order to obtain approximate solutions for metal plasticity equations based on the analysis of the stress field: the lower bound and slab methods, examples of approximate analysis based on velocity and stress fields as well as exact solutions for plane strain problems known as "slip lines" are presented. They are applied to the analysis of various metal forming operations such as scalping, work hardening, stretching, drawing etc.

INTRODUCTION
This article presents elementary methods for approximate resolution of the plasticity equations for metals. They are applied to the analysis of forming processes and mechanical tests. The metal is, in general, a rigid perfectly plastic solid (RPP) and satisfies the von Mises plasticity criterion. Tools are rigid, and metal/tool interfaces are subject to Tresca friction.
