4. Cupola design
Plant design and dimensioning play an essential role in the cupola's performance and operating costs. Energy and metal furnace costs are important factors in the choice of plant, as are environmental constraints such as smoke, waste, noise and water. Fluctuating metal requirements during melting, and possible changes over time, are also important factors in the decision.
In addition to special equipment designed to achieve the best possible results in terms of product, cost and environmental regulations, these technologies can be divided into two groups: cold-wind and hot-wind cupolas.
