1.1 Definitions
Laminating, an operation of great diversity, can be summarized by the following definition:
Plastic shaping operation designed to reduce the cross-section of a long product by passing it between two or more axisymmetric tools rotating around their axis; it is the rotation of the tools that drags the product into the right-of-way through friction.
Rolling is a fundamental operation in metallurgy, accounting for around 90% of all metal produced, all metals and alloys combined. Some examples of rolling mills are shown on figure 1 .
