3. Foundry and primary processing
In the zinc industry, the workshops involved in the primary processing stage all have an integrated foundry, whose main roles are:
the smelting of zinc feedstock either in the form of electrolytic zinc cathodes or ingots;
production of the desired alloys in the liquid state;
recovery of manufacturing waste from the primary transformation stage in the workshop, or from the secondary transformation stage at the customer's premises.
