We propose to examine in turn the influence of each of these mechanical characteristics on forming, identifying as precisely as possible the type of forming for which they are favorable or detrimental.
As we have seen, in paragraph 3.4 of article
, the anisotropy coefficient r reflects the metal's tendency, during a tensile test, to deform in width rather than thickness. Note that this behavior is true in both directions: if r is high, the metal also thickens, but in compression. We also saw, in paragraph 1.1 of the article
that the deformation mode known as swaging requires a reduction in (circumferential) width under tension for the metal to penetrate the die.
