2. Casting study
Based on the drawing of the part, the molding study will specify, according to the manufacturing processes envisaged, all the elements concerning the foundry itself, which will then be concretized on the drawing of the raw part, namely, for the most important :
part weight, alloy used ;

shrinkage, which affects the overall dimensions of the part on cooling; it is expressed in ‰ or in mm/m; depending on the alloy and the position of the part, the following average values may be used:
cast iron: from 8 to 18 ‰ ;
steels: from 15 to 22 ‰ ;
light alloys: from 12 to 15 ‰ ;
copper alloys: from 12 to 18 ‰ ;
