1. Enfournements

1.1 Defining needs

For the foundryman, steelmaking means meeting the qualitative and quantitative requirements necessary to obtain all the characteristics demanded of the cast part. More specifically, the foundryman's role is to determine the most economical feedstock (scrap, alloying elements, slag raw materials, etc.) compatible with the production resources at his disposal, and which will enable him to deliver to the casting shop:

  • the tonnage of liquid steel needed to cast the parts;

  • the specified chemical composition in main and residual elements;

  • ladle pouring temperature.
