Part design depends on the characteristics of the material used and the limits of the manufacturing process. The many possible variations in the design of a diecast part can lead either to a part that is difficult to produce despite the skill of the foundryman, or, on the contrary, to a compromise that makes the most of all the possibilities offered by the material and the process.

The few rules set out below have been compiled to help designers in their search for the best solution, but they can never replace direct contact with the foundryman. The foundryman's experience is indispensable in arriving at the layout that will give the best results, both in terms of mechanical characteristics and presentation, under the most economical production conditions....
