10. Manufacturing beryllium compounds
Beryllium oxide BeO is obtained from the hydroxide Be(OH)
2
by calcination or from sulfates, carbonates and acetates. The whiteness and reactivity of the powder are linked to grain size and the presence of impurities. The product is very stable, but its stability depends on the amount of bound water; this is why beryllium oxide is more stable the higher the calcination temperature. The oxide is mainly used in the manufacture of special ceramics
