1. Continuous metal processing lines
These continuous lines take very different forms depending on whether we consider each of the three main channels, i.e. :
the conventional production of cast iron and steel;
production of reduced minerals ;
scrap processing as in mini-mills.
Each of these cases will be dealt with separately.
1.1 Continuous production of cast iron and steel
If we refer to article on the classic large integrated steel mills and their basic technology diagram (figure 1 of the ) and the product flow diagram (figure 4 of the ) but, more particularly, to their evolution (figure 5 of the ), it's easy to see that this is one of those cases where, at least up to the level of liquid pig iron, we're getting closer and closer to continuity....
