1.1 General description of the ESR process
The principle of the ESR process is to melt a primary ingot called the "consumable electrode" to form a high-quality secondary ingot.
Figure 1 a shows a schematic illustration of the most conventional ESR plant, equipped with a water-cooled static ingot mould containing the slag and remelted ingot.
