In this type of process, the part to be coated is placed in a closed enclosure, in contact with a cement generally consisting of a mixture of the donor element and a suitably chosen chemical agent, hence the name pack cementation.
Cement also contains an inert powder, or diluent, to prevent sintering, which can occur at high temperatures.
The chemical agent, at the processing temperature, reacts with the donor element to form in situ the gaseous compound of the body (or bodies) to be deposited (figure
