4. Conclusion and outlook
Research carried out in partnership between Hutchinson and the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Mulhouse has led to the development of the concept of non-aqueous emulsions stabilized by macromolecular surfactants. These "oil-in-oil" emulsions are the starting point for the production of elastomer films containing a fine dispersion of an "active" liquid, in particular a disinfectant liquid.
These data led to the development and industrialization of a manufacturing process for a revolutionary high-tech surgical glove marketed in hospitals, primarily for operating room staff.
According to current research, this same concept could be applied to gloves for handling special waste, as well as to active packaging.
