The various stages of a cable extrusion line are carried out by specialized machines. The cable cross-section and line speed are the two parameters that determine the specific equipment used.
Initially, the substrate (single wires or assembled wires, whether pre-insulated or not) is supplied via reels for small-diameter substrates (diameters on the order of a millimeter or smaller) and via gantry systems for substrates (cables, wire assemblies, or cable assemblies) with large cross-sections.
Intermediate processes (such as wire splicing, wire drawing followed by annealing, strip forming, etc.) are performed before the material passes through the extrusion die and a polymer coating is applied.
