3. Polymer grafting using ionizing radiation
A monomer bearing an unsaturation (double bond) of the vinyl, allyl or acrylic type can bind to a carbon chain under the effect of ionizing radiation.
Depending on the other chemical functions (or ligands) carried by the monomer, special characteristics can be permanently imparted to the support material: antiseptic properties, ion exchangers, adhesion promoters...
Different types of radiation and irradiation facilities enable the grafting of substrates in very different forms: films, textile surfaces, granules, medical devices, for example.
