5. PMR matrix composites
5.1 Preparation
The main use for PMR polyimides is in the manufacture of structural parts with high heat resistance. These are manufactured in composites in which PMR polyimides act as the organic matrix. In view of the matrix's performance, glass fibers and, more often than not, carbon fibers are added.
These high-temperature polymers pose problems when it comes to using reinforcements. The latter, whose properties were previously stable within the temperature range of the polymers, are now a consideration. Some PMR polyimides prohibit the use of Kevlar organic fiber.
Preparation is essentially carried out by impregnating long fibers with the envisaged solution of the 3 monomers.
