4. PVC formulation
It's hardly possible to talk about PVC stabilization without mentioning PVC formulation itself. PVC is by far the most additivated of the mass-market polymers. The complexity of the way PVC degrades during processing obliges the processor to design a complex formulation containing a whole series of additives.
It is typical in the PVC world for the formulation, traditionally called compound, to be expressed in "percent resin" (pcr) (table

).
Thermal stabilizers are absolutely essential to limit the thermomechanical degradation of PVC, but they are not enough. Without the presence of lubricants (internal and external), PVC could not be processed on industrial equipment without degrading.
