6. Various additives
Adjuvants are products added to formulas to meet very specific specifications. There are, of course, many different types of adjuvant.
Flame retardants are generally introduced during the formulation of mixtures. They include :
self-extinguishing halogenated products ;
intumescent products, mainly zinc borate ;
metal oxides, hydroxides or salts.
Blowing agents are used to produce foam rubber. One of these is azodicarbonamide, which has been declared a product of concern under REACH (Registration Evaluation Authorization of Chemicals – European regulations), and for which substitution measures must be taken.
