3. Extruder operation

The extruder is a machine that conveys and processes solid or liquid products by means of one or more screws rotating in a barrel, and forces them continuously into an extrusion head.

The materials mixed and plasticized as they are transferred into the sheath can be heated, cooled (sometimes) and degassed; they can pass through a filter before being extruded using a die or a die and punch.

The characteristics of extruders (figure 3 ) vary according to the nature and flow rates of the material to be processed.
