4. Conclusion
The extreme diversity of polymeric materials used in an automobile, and the industrial variability of part manufacturing processes, would seem to preclude the sole use of instruments such as "electronic noses" to limit or avoid any olfactory incidents. Although we can't rule out the possibility of achieving this in the future, at the cost of considerable effort or by taking advantage of new technologies, mastery of the materials and processes used, as well as the use of trained olfactory panels, still remain unavoidable for this purpose.
