5. Thermal mold sizing based on an optimal model
The starting point for dimensioning a tooling thermal control system is the 3D geometry of the part. The objectives of a control system are twofold.
Quantitative: cool the part as quickly as possible, or at least a certain thickness, to avoid damaging the part during ejection.
Qualitative: cooling the molded surface as uniformly as possible to reduce surface thermal gradients, which are a source of defects in the part.
There are only a few action parameters that can control heat transfer in the tool.
