3. Tin alloys
In the breakdown (in %) of uses for tin consumed worldwide (see the article Tin metallurgy and recycling [M 2 314], already quoted), tinplate alone (47%) exceeds the sum of the three consecutive uses for tin alloys (brazing 23%, bronzing 7%, antifriction 6%).
The production of alloys is an operation which modifies the properties of the base metal, so that they can be used under different conditions, better suited to the requirements of their application.
