3. Creep-resistant steels
Before describing the different steel grades used in creep-resistant constructions, it is useful to briefly recall the metallurgical factors that determine a metal's creep resistance.
3.1 Factors affecting creep resistance
First and foremost, it is interesting to situate the temperature limits usually considered (0.3 Ts and 0.8 Ts) in relation to the melting start temperature (the solidus) of steels. We know that iron melts at 1,536 C; for many steels, we can assume that their melting start temperature Ts is between 1,500 and 1,400 C, which leads to the table 3.
