5. Extrapolations and predictions of long-term creep behavior
For the design of certain parts that will be in service for many years, it is necessary to extrapolate creep results obtained from short tests and/or at temperatures higher than the service temperature, in order to accelerate deformation (or reduce test times).
These extrapolations are sometimes based on assumptions that we will describe in detail below.
This method is used when extrapolations are made at temperatures identical to those of the reference tests. It involves constructing a graph of lg σ as a function of lg t. At a given temperature and for each test constraint, the time reported is either :
