3. Conclusion

The phenomenon of fatigue, induced by repeated variations in stress, is encountered in most industrial parts and structures, and can lead to failure in service. Characterizing the fatigue strength of materials, representative specimens or structures is an essential step in preventing failure.

Given the dispersion observed in fatigue testing, the quality of the result depends on the number of specimens tested, and testing can quickly become costly.

The choice of test method and conditions must be carefully matched to the need, such as :

  • material characterization,

  • process qualification,

  • obtaining data for dimensioning,

  • component validation,

  • understanding a failure....
