8. Conclusions
Poor control of gassing phenomena is one of the most important causes of quality dispersion in castings. They are also responsible for the scrap crises that sometimes occur in foundries in summer, when atmospheric water vapour levels are high.
The rapid development of degassing rotors in foundries is probably a decisive factor in progress.
In terms of health effects, the mechanisms of action of gassing are well known in qualitative terms. They are much less well known in quantitative terms. This is one of the areas of research that metallurgists are currently focusing on.
Indeed, with the advent of solidification modeling software in the industry, it is becoming possible to control, and consequently eliminate, health defects of thermal origin. The next step is to model microporosities. This will only be possible...
