5. Other properties
As mentioned in the introduction, the calculation of characteristics other than those measured in tension poses a number of problems, either due to a lack of sufficiently general data, or because the significance of property measurements is less absolute. This is the case, for example, for toughness, often assessed by Charpy V curves, which are only one type of test among others. In fact, we know how to switch from one type of brittle fracture test to another, including KIC type measurements using transition temperature relationships.
By way of example, the Charpy V ductile-fragile transition temperature is predicted for ferrite-perlite grades thicker than 10 mm only.
