2.1 Standards
The main standards for measuring grain size in metal alloys are ISO 643 and ASTM E112-24, the latter being specific to the USA. ISO 14250 is used to quantify the size of a duplex grain, while ISO 4967 is designed to identify and quantify inclusions.

The grains are single crystals of metal alloys: this excludes, in principle, the eutectoid or eutectic zones of the alloys, although the term "pearlite grain" is commonly used.
