4. Quasicrystal applications
Numerous studies have been carried out to overcome the extreme brittleness of quasicrystalline alloys, which precludes their use directly in massive form. As a result, their technological application prospects are based more on their integration as coatings, deposits or in metal or polymer matrix composites. Depending on the type of quasicrystalline alloy used, the main advantages sought are mechanical strength, wear resistance and resistance to oxidation and corrosion.
