3. Quasicrystal properties
Since the discovery of quasicrystals, one of the fundamental questions has been to understand how quasiperiodic order affects electronic properties. The essential characteristics of quasiperiodic structures are, on the one hand, the absence of translational periodicity associated with long-range orientational order, and on the other, the existence of identical local environments, a consequence of the self-similarity of their structure. The first point invalidates Bloch's theorem and suggests that electronic states cannot be delocalized as in a periodic crystal
