Steel aging

Aging is essentially significant in extra-soft steels, i.e. those that are totally ferritic. Pearlite is much less sensitive, as interstitial diffusion does not affect cementite.

Aging decreases steadily as we move on to steels with a higher carbon or alloy content. In addition to the thin plates already studied, the main products concerned are soft and extra-soft wire, steels that can be welded under certain conditions, and other steels (reinforcing bars, some rail steels, beams, etc.).
