composé intermétallique; intermetallic compound
Ordered crystallographic arrangement of metallic elements with simple atomic concentration ratios (50/50, 67/33, 50/25/25). The crystallographic structure is different from that of the constituent metallic elements. For example, the TiAl compound, with its quadratic structure, is derived from titanium, with its hexagonal structure, and aluminum, with its face-centered cubic structure.

Mechanism leading to the formation of surface defects characterized by a break in the ordering of atomic planes, with the formation of a plane of mirror symmetry with respect to this ordering.
