Polychloroprene contact adhesives

These are usually solvent-based adhesives based on polychloroprene rubber, the best-known of which is Neoprene from Du Pont.

Their formulation includes :

• a suitably selected neoprene rubber;

• a resin that provides tack, adhesion on difficult-to-bond substrates and heat resistance (which varies from 70 to 120°C depending on the formula);

• ZnO and MgO (which react with rubber and resin);

• all dissolved in a solvent mixture generally based on esters (ethyl acetate), ketones and aliphatic hydrocarbons.
