INTRODUCTION
Thermodynamics enables us to determine the nature of the phases present at equilibrium when we fix the temperature and partial pressure of the various gaseous species interacting with a metal or alloy.
It is therefore an indispensable tool for a scientific approach to dry corrosion. However, we must not lose sight of the fact that all corrosion is, in essence, a situation of global non-equilibrium, and that only local equilibrium situations can be correctly described.
To clarify morphological observations and mechanisms, we have chosen oxidation as an example of a dry corrosion reaction. The transposition to sulfidation (layer growth), carburizing or nitriding (internal precipitation) and chlorination (evaporation) is immediate.
Note :
This theoretical study on the dry corrosion of metals consists of two parts:
- Dry corrosion of metals. Study methods ;
[M 4 221] - Dry corrosion of metals. Mechanisms; to which is attached a documentation booklet "Pour en savoir plus" ;
- Dry corrosion of metals. Study methods and mechanisms.
The practical study of various industrial cases is covered in :
- Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: oxidation, carburizing ;
- Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: sulfurizing, nitriding;
- Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: halogens ;
- Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: deposits; molten media;
- Dry corrosion of metals. Choice of alloys ;
