5.1 Organomineral coating: sol-gel deposition
Sol-gel processes, corresponding to the abbreviation solution-gel, are so-called "soft" chemical synthesis methods (i.e. at low temperature) initially used for the preparation of inorganic materials such as glasses or ceramics. The first surface coatings were developed on glasses to provide color, anti-reflective or polarizing properties.
The aim of sol-gel processes is to create a network of oxides by means of a progressive condensation polymerization mechanism in a liquid medium, with the solution transforming into a gel and then into a solid by drying
