7. Structural metal surface treatments
First and foremost, the aim of surface structural transformation treatments is to improve and homogenize the mechanical properties of alloy surfaces. In particular, for alloys with high mechanical properties (2XXX and 7XXX), these treatments can improve fatigue behavior after machining operations and reduce the risk of stress corrosion. Structural homogenization of the surface can also improve frictional behavior.
