7. Durability
When composite structures come into contact with the marine environment, the question arises as to their durability. Several quantitative factors are of interest to the designer:
the amount of water potentially diffused into the material ;
the impact of water on the material's mechanical, elastic and fracture properties;
the effect of mechanical stress coupling – on material strength.
The first two questions are increasingly well answered, but the third remains an open question.
