Calcium carbonate, multifunction additive

A large number of synthesis processes are likely to lead to the formation of calcium carbonate, and are widely described in the literature, particularly with regard to laboratory-scale studies. Four main industrial processes are described here:

• recomposition (the most common industrial process);

• selection (or dolomitic separation) ;

• co-precipitation ;

• double decomposition.

A final section is devoted to the precipitation process in organic media and emulsions, which has been the subject of numerous developments since the 1990s.
