6. Glossary
Compounding ; compounding
The process of producing a generally complex material by mixing one or more fillers (solid or liquid) in a matrix using an extrusion process.
Cumulative deformation ; cumulative strain
The amount of strain (calculated as the product of strain rate and time) accumulated by a material element during a flow.
Specific mechanical energy ; specific mechanical energy
Energy related to the material's deformation rate, expressed per unit of mass or volume. In practice, it is expressed in kilowatt-hours per tonne (kWh/t).
Dispersive mixture ; dispersive mixing
Mixing action to reduce the size of the phase to be dispersed.
Distributive mix ; distributive mixing
Mixing action to homogenize the distribution of fillers within the matrix.
