Extrusion Lines in the Cable Industry. Manufacturing Steps

Two types of extrusion lines are used: those that produce individual wires by applying insulation to a single-strand conductor (solid conductor) or a stranded conductor, and those that apply a jacket to stranded wires that have been joined together to form a cable.

In the case of a conductor consisting of several stranded elementary strands (to increase the conductor’s flexibility) or a combination of several elementary wires, the assembly can take place between the unwinding and the extrusion processes.

For solid conductors, drawing followed by annealing can also be performed in tandem (in-line) with the insulation line, before the extrusion head. For stranded conductors, the stranding process is generally performed in a preceding operation and sometimes in tandem.
