ABSTRACT

This article deals with the functions and constructive solutions of injection presses. It starts by explaining the injection cycle process; the molten plastic matter is injected into a mold and then demolded once cooled and solidified. The constructive solutions adopted by the constructors of machines are then dealt with at the level of the injection group (including the functions concerning the fusion and transfer of the molten matter) and the clamping system (including the opening and closing functions of the mold, its locking and the ejection of parts). In conclusion a synthesis of the basic design is made, which allows for observing the structure and formation of presses as well as the real system.

 INTRODUCTION

Plastic injection molding involves filling the cold cavities of a mold with molten plastic, then demolding the resulting part once the plastic has cooled and solidified.

The mould cavities are filled by introducing molten plastic material under pressure into the mould cavities.

The temperature of the cavities is regulated to a value that cools the injected material.

The injection-molded parts, formed by the plastic material solidified in the cavities, are extracted from the mold by means of a mold opening and an ejection device.

This article presents the constructive solutions adopted by machine builders active on the European market. The comments accompanying the descriptions will help the reader to choose the optimum solution for his application. It is followed by two other articles:
