3. Zinc electrolytes
Industrial electrolyte formulations are numerous, and can be broken down into two broad classes of electrolyte, depending on their operating pH: acidic and alkaline. These formulations are justified by thermodynamics [2][15]. Indeed, considering the potential-pH diagram E = f (pH) of the Zn-H2O system (figure 1), there are two ways to develop a coating:
operate in an acid medium (pH < 5.5) in which the stable form is the Zn2+, x H2O ion;
operate in alkaline medium ...
