There are numerous standards requiring the monitoring of measuring instruments, for example NF EN ISO 9001 , NF EN ISO/IEC 17025 These include the European Pharmacopoeia, the North American Pharmacopoeia USP, Good Manufacturing and Laboratory Practice (GMP, GLP) regulations and food safety standards.

Almost everyone working in quality control and quality assurance, whether in the laboratory or in production, is familiar with the applicable requirements stipulated in these documents.

The monitoring required involves setting up operating procedures for qualification, validation, calibration, verification and uncertainty determination.
