7. Other microcalorimetry modes used
Many academic research laboratories and large industrial research centers use differential scanning calorimeters, not only for linear temperature programming, but also in other programming modes: step-wise, sawtooth (T-jump) or sinusoidal modulation (MT-DSC). DSC equipment is also used in isothermal mode to study reactions involving energies high enough to be detected.
The DSC signal obtained by ramp or sawtooth temperature programming can be modeled by one or more exponential functions:
