3. Instrument parameters
This section describes the instrumental parameters involved in the performance characteristics of spectrophotometers. In particular, these parameters determine spectral range, spectral resolution, stray light levels and measurement dynamics, i.e. the concentration range that can be covered without having to dilute concentrated samples, or concentrate diluted samples.
UV-VIS spectrophotometers cover the range from 190 to 800 nm, with some devices limited to 220 nm. Some spectrophotometers can also work in the near-infrared range, up to 2,500 nm, bridging the gap with mid-infrared devices that cover the 2,500 nm-40,000 nm range.
