1. Principles

1.1 Radiation absorption in the UV-VIS range

The principle of ultraviolet and visible absorption spectrometry is based on the absorption of radiation by molecules in the range 190-800 nm, corresponding to the ultraviolet (190-400 nm) and visible (400-800 nm). Some spectrophotometers also cover the near infrared up to 2,500 nm, for example. This range is illustrated in figure 1 .
