For all types of displays, the notion of peak luminance is an essential parameter for obtaining a good impression of subjective quality. A high level of peak luminance not only ensures good contrast, but also enables the screen to be used in areas with high ambient light levels, as is the case for most professional applications.
What's more, in today's economic and ecological context, the commercial success of a new technology requires relatively low power consumption, in contradiction with the need for ever-increasing peak luminance.
