7. Wide-area flicker
At the dawn of time, man was a hunter, a function that required very high visual acuity in the center of his field of vision in order to capture his prey. To survive, he also needed to be able to detect danger (wild animal movements, etc.) at the periphery of his field of vision.
This is why our retina has become a non-homogeneous neurosensitive layer. Its central part (fovea) has a high acuity in terms of resolution, while the peripheral part is more sensitive to movement (temporal frequency). This same perception of movement is shown in figure
