shows a typical noise spectrum measured in a given environment. On a continuous background, with a 1/f rise at low frequencies, are superimposed peaks characteristic of the environment under consideration; the largest peaks are generally at the frequency of the network and its harmonics.
Filtering consists in eliminating or rather attenuating unwanted frequencies.
If you're working at a fixed frequency, or within a given frequency range, you'll need bandpass filters or, better still, tuned circuits. In the latter case, parasitic signals whose frequencies lie outside the passband are attenuated in the ratio 1/Q...
